On-Line Analyzer System Design Overview

(AP04P v1.0)

Length: 1 day

CEU Credits: 0.7

Course Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Description:

This course reviews the technologies involved in both a basic process control system and a basic continuous emissions monitor system (CEMS). These technologies will include:

  • Sample Conditioning

  • Analytical Methods

  • Networks for Signal Transmission

You will be able to:

  • Recognize the terminology of basic Hydrocarbon (HC) Chemistry.

  • Gain a basic understanding of Gas Chromatography.

  • Gain a basic understanding of Spectroscopy Measurements.

  • Determine Measurement Technologies for HC Gases & Liquids.

  • Gain a basic understanding of Sample Conditioning Technology.

  • Gain a basic understanding of Analyzer Signal Networks.

  • Come away from this Course with a basic appreciation of how all of the above can function together as an Analyzer System.

You will cover:

  • Basic Hydrocarbon Chemistry

  • Basic Gas Chromatography

  • Basic Spectroscopy

  • Basic Gas Analyzer Technologies

  • Basic Sample Conditioning Technologies

  • Basic Signal Transmission (Networks)

  • Basic Analyzer System Integration Technology

Lab and Classroom Exercises:

  • Classroom presentation by a 45+ year experienced ISA Fellow who is an internationally recognized Process Analyzer System design and commissioning expert

  • No Laboratory Exercises are planned for this Class

Course Prerequisites:

  • Students should have a job in a Process Industry facility performing process or laboratory analyzer maintenance or they can utilize this Class to gain skills to obtain a position in the Process Industry.

  • One (1) year of High School Chemistry.

  • ISA CCST Level 1 personnel would benefit significantly from this course.

  • Union trade personnel (Electrical and Piping) would gain skills that would make them more valuable to obtain work in Process Industry facilities.
